Basic keyboard skills (treble clef notes plus how to play chords). Simple rhythmic notation. What the elements of music are and how they are used. How to read and play from guitar tab. Singing songs and rounds.  How to play chords on the ukulele.

Through use of the Yacapaca homework system, video and audio recordings during each project showing progress of practical skills. Use of assessinator.co.uk to track progress.


 

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

Performing simple songs (with accompaniment) on keyboards, progressing in difficulty as pupils get more confident. Working in small groups/pairs to produce vocal performances in a variety of styles. Learning to improvise around a set scale on the guitar.  Sing simple songs while playing the ukulele


 

How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

These activities will develop the practical skills and understanding of theory essential to gaining a good grade in public examinations.

What Will I Learn?

How to play chords on a guitar. How to improvise a melodic melody on the keyboard. More difficult performance pieces on both instruments. A better understanding of music theory.


How Will I Be Assessed?

Through use of the Yacapaca homework system, video and audio recordings during each project showing progress of practical skills. Use of assessinator.co.uk to track progress.


What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

Learn about the history of the Blues and how to perform a 12 bar Blues piece. Learn about the history of Reggae and perform a song from that genre. Perform more advanced pieces on the keyboards


How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

These activities will develop the practical skills and understanding of theory essential to gaining a good grade in public examinations.

What Will I Learn?

As an option subject, focus will be on further developing the practical skills on a chosen instrument/voice necessary to gain a good grade in the terminal exam. Focus will also be on small group performances/working with partners.


How Will I Be Assessed?

Through video and audio recordings for each performance piece showing progress of practical skills, graded on criteria set by the exam board.


What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

Developing instrumental/vocal skills plus a better understanding of the techniques/history of the chosen instrument/history of vocal music. Working together in small groups to produce performance pieces. Daily practice logs to be completed.


How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

How Will I Be Assessed?

Through video and audio recordings for each performance piece showing progress of practical skills, graded on criteria set by the exam board. Through internally assessed and externally moderated coursework. Through an externally assessed terminal practical exam lasting 15 minutes.


What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

Developing instrumental/vocal skills plus a better understanding of the techniques/history of the chosen instrument/history of vocal music. Working together in small groups to produce performance pieces. One written coursework element (out of two) will be completed. Daily practice logs to be completed.


How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

Performance skill will have developed sufficiently for the pupil to take a higher level exam should they choose to do so.
