What Will I Learn?

Biology: Cells, Energy for life, Reproduction and Ecosystems.

Chemistry: Matter, Atoms, Acid and alkalis, Pure substances

Physics: Forces and transport, Space, Electricity

How Will I Be Assessed?

Extended writing tasks throughout the term and end of term examinations.

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

Scientific investigations, modelling abstract scientific concepts, roleplaying science experts, creating scientific information materials for public use and homework centred on content or skills relevant to current unit.

How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

The capacity to accurately make conclusions from data, design experimental methods and evaluate said methods is increased through practice and as such it is our aim to install these skills early on our learners’ experience in Science.

Modelling scientific concepts is a fun way that has proven to help reinforce scientific ideas. Ideas that are forever relevant throughout a pupil’s experience in science at Marshalls Park.

Role playing science experts is a great way in not only reinforcing skills or knowledge but a chance for pupils to independently explore different aspects of a unit, bringing everyday meaning to what is often difficult concepts.

Designing scientific information material is another activity which allows for independent summary of specific key concepts allowing real creativity to ensue.

We believe that homework is a necessary component of our pupils’ school diet and aim to focus the activity so pupils are stretched and learning is reinforced.

These skills are tested at GCSE and we wish our pupils to be as prepared to reach their potential as possible but alongside this we aim to enthuse and excite a passion in the Sciences for all our pupils.
